Physical Health

Hypnotherapy can play an important role in the treatment of many varieties of physical illness, from pain relief, management of symptoms to boosting your overall physical health and well being.

Hypnosis has been shown to have a positive benefit to people with physical conditions, either by improving symptoms or their emotional response to the condition. Physical conditions are often exacerbated by underlying stress or anxiety and I will work with you to reduce over-thinking and to teach stress management techniques.

Please be aware, if your condition is a medical one I will need to be sure that a diagnosis has been sought and obtained from a medical professional prior to starting a course of hypnotherapy. In some cases, I may need your permission to write to your GP or Consultant to inform them that you are planning to undertake hypnotherapy and keep them updated with the outcome.

You’re fully in control when under hypnosis. Hypnosis does not work if you don’t want to be hypnotised.

Chronic Pain

Hypnosis can help with pain from migraines or tension headaches, through to chronic pain.

People with pain-related conditions like arthritis, cancer, sickle cell disease, and fibromyalgia, as well as people who have low back pain, may experience relief with hypnosis.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is routinely treated with hypnosis and is recommended as a treatment by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). Evidence shows that over 60% of sufferers show a significant improvement in their symptoms from using hypnosis.

Skin Conditions

Skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis may respond well to hypnosis. Like many chronic conditions, skin problems can be triggered by stress. We can include visualisation techniques and stress management into your sessions and teach you self-hypnosis for relaxation and positive imagery.

Improved Sleep

Poor sleep can be caused by a number of factors including stress, anxiety, menopause, unhelpful behaviours and environmental factors. I will work with you to address, where possible, any of these issues. We can include self-management techniques which may include meditation or relaxation techniques in addition to guided hypnosis.

Did you know that there have been dentists and doctors who have performed surgeries while their patients were under hypnosis?

Pain Management…

There is growing evidence that suggests hypnosis could be used as a tool to decrease the intake of drugs to reduce pain in chronic conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, IBS and headaches to name just a few. Chronic pain is sometimes hard to treat and patients can see improvement in undertaking a number of different approaches, and complementary medicine including hypnotherapy has been highlighted as allowing you to lessen pain, improve mobility and help with the emotional impacts.

Ongoing chronic pain can have a huge effect on your mental health and increase your levels of stress and anxiety and result in low moods and depression. I can show you how to manage the pain – we forget that the body and mind are connected and hypnotherapy is a way to address the link between the mind and the body. The way our minds respond to pain can change our perception of physical sensations. Using hypnosis to focus on relaxation and giving you tools to take away to use when you are on your own will give you back the control to turn down your pain receptors. Our brains are pretty amazing and if you give it a chance it will help you to refocus away from the pain onto something more pleasant you just need to give it a go, and trust in yourself. Hypnosis is not a cure for your pain, but it can help you improve the way you deal with it as it provides you with the ability to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood and reduce the need for medicines containing addictive opioids by inducing analgesia.
